Beyond Beauty

Day’s Jewelers is committed to the highest level of social, ethical, and environmental responsibility in every aspect of our business. Our buyers search the world to find the most beautiful jewelry and gemstones. Though selling beautiful, quality jewelry is the core of our business, we are especially attentive to sourcing jewelry and gems that did not cause harm to people or the environment.

We are committed to the respect of human rights, to avoiding contributions to the finance of conflict and complying with all relevant UN sanctions, resolutions and laws. We are a certified member of the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) as proven through an independent third-party verification.  As such we commit to and comply with:

  • Respecting human rights according to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and International Labour Organization Fundamental Rights at Work;
  • Refusing to engage in or tolerate bribery, corruption, money laundering or finance of terrorism;
  • Supporting transparency of government payments and rights-compatible security forces in the extractives industry;
  • Refusing to provide direct or indirect support to illegal armed groups
  • Enabling stakeholders to voice concerns about the jewelry supply chain.
  • Implementing a management process for risk based due diligence for responsible supply chains of minerals, diamonds and gemstones from conflict-affected and high-risk areas as identified by OFAC (Office of Foreign Assets Control) documentation and notification.

Supply Chain Evaluation

We also commit to using our influence to prevent abuses by others. In doing so, we will conduct no less than annually, a risk assessment of suppliers we source our precious metals including gold, platinum and silver, colored gemstones and diamonds from, in accordance to OECD guidance and risks.

We expect our suppliers to conduct their own supply chain evaluations and follow OECD guidance in sourcing materials. Evidence of due diligence carried out by upstream suppliers, to be collected only as often as needed to ensure that the information remains applicable and current. Suppliers need to update whenever suppliers change their sourcing and we will request a routine update at least once a year.

Document examples on the supplier (not all required):

  • Supplier supply chain policy.
  • Risk assessment documentation.
  • Evidence of audits carried out in conformance with the OECD Guidance, covering the sourcing practices of red-flag suppliers.
  • Evidence of supplier participation in relevant industry programs and initiatives e.g. the Maendeleo Diamonds Standards certification process, Mano River Union CrossBorder Initiative, RJC certification. We ask our suppliers to provide us with information regarding their supply chain and sourcing.

We will make publicly available our Supply Chain policy, and update annually our risk assessment findings.

Conflict-Free Diamonds

Conflict diamonds, often referred to as blood diamonds, are sold in order to collect proceeds to finance weapon purchases is some African countries. These weapons, in the hands of rebel forces, lead a violent and fearsome regime.

In 2003, the Kimberley Process was founded amongst international stakeholders in the diamond industry to combat conflict diamonds entering the sales pipeline.

This process is a voluntary system of industry self-regulation, the World Diamond Council System of Warranties, created by the World Federation of Diamond Bourses and the International Diamond Manufacturers Association, requires all buyers and sellers of rough diamonds, polished diamonds and jewelry containing diamonds make the following statement on all invoices.

The diamonds herein invoiced have been purchased from legitimate sources not involved in funding conflict and in compliance with United Nations resolutions.  The seller hereby guarantees that these diamonds are conflict free, based on personal knowledge and/or written guarantees provided by the supplier of these diamonds.

Day's Jewelers will not knowingly offer conflict diamonds for sale. Since 2004, we have demanded both personal and written warranties from all of our diamond suppliers that diamonds delivered to Day's Jewelers have been purchased through legitimate, conflict-free sources. A written warranty is required for every individual diamond shipment.

Diamonds Do Good

The Diamond Empowerment Fund (D.E.F.) was founded in 2007 by leaders in the Diamond and Jewelry Industry. D.E.F. believes that education is a key component to sustainable development, which in turn is essential to empower individuals, communities, and society toward future economic prosperity, stability and advancement.

Today, over two thousand college age students in Africa, and now in India, have received financial assistance or have been awarded scholarships as a result of the generous support D.E.F has received from the diamond and jewelry industry. Those students, since graduated, have returned home to support their families and create opportunities in their communities. This is what D.E.F refers to as a ‘Diamonds Do Good’ impact.

Caring for Community

Day’s sponsors local fund raising efforts, supports local schools, scouting, clubs, and organizations, as well as donates a portion of proceeds from the sale of certain items to support special charitable initiatives.

We wholeheartedly believe in making a positive impact in the lives of those around us, such as granting children's wishes through Make-A-Wish, empowering young women with the Girl Scouts by offering our Jeweler Badge program, or caring for animals in local shelters.

We actively encourage our employees to become involved in community organizations they care about, to further support our mission of giving back to the communities in which we work and reside.
